Only 39 more days left of school!!  We are busy finishing out the school year with fun activities and learning new things.
We have a Tiger Pride Assembly tomorrow at 2:30.
Also, we have a student teacher in our classroom for the next 7 weeks.  She began by taking over Writer's Workshop for us and will gradually be taking over other subjects.  Please ask your child about Mrs. Petersen.  She's a wonderful person and will be a great teacher.

If you can, some students need glue and crayons.  We are also out of tissues in the classroom.  If you can donate those it would be greatly appreciated.
Have a wonderful week!

The students are having a great time during Read Across America.  Don't forget to wear PJ's tomorrow!!!  Also, they have really enjoyed this website, so I wanted to share it.

Our class Winter party is Friday, December 16th at 2:30.  Please don't forget to send in your $2 donation to help with the food and crafts.

We are working hard on our classroom play Mrs. Claus' Christmas Gift.  We will be performing on Monday, December 19th, at 2:30.  Everyone is invited to come see how hard we've been working.
Monday is also PJ day for 2nd grade.  We will be watching Polar Express and drinking Hot Chocolate :)

Our class will be creating gingerbread houses on our last day before break, Wednesday, December 21st.  I'm asking for donations.  We will need plastic plates (only 18), several boxes of graham crackers, and any toppings.  Some ideas are:  any colored sprinkles, red licorice, gum drops, coconut, M&M's, small candy canes, red hots, and any other item you think would be fun to stick on a gingerbread house!  If you can bring them by Monday the 19th, I will know what else I need to buy before Wednesday.

Starting Monday, December 12th, we will be switching classes to learn about Christmas Around the World.  Each 2nd grade classroom teacher is teaching Christmas traditions/history from another country.  We will be learning about Christmas in Germany, Mexico, England, and Italy!

Last note:  We have begun a Yoga Phonics class  a couple times a week.  If you would be able to send in a beach towel or even possibly a yoga mat for your child they would love to have that to sit on instead of the floor.  I'm asking for a towel, but some students said they had mats at home that were not being used and it's ok if that's what they want to bring.

Your child now has a bookroom they can read online.  It is their independent reading level.  They will need to listen to the book, read the book, then take a quiz.  They will earn points/stars then they can spend them in the rocket room.  I will keep track of their reading also.  I hope they have fun with this new website!!

I need each student to bring in 1 or two rocks that they find outside.  We are collecting rocks and will be investigating rocks for the next week.  These rocks should be placed in their backpacks and not taken out until they reach the classroom.  If you think your child will have difficulty with this on the bus, please do not send a rock. I will pick up a few extras also! :)

Your child will be bringing home a parent/teacher conference sheet.  I will need those signed and returned as soon as possible.  If the time given does not work for you, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate all needs.   Conferences are next week and are 15 min. per conference.  Most of the conferences are back to back, so please try to be on time and I will do my best to end the conferences on time because there will be parents waiting for the next appointment.

We are still in need of some snacks, if you are willing to send those in.  :)

We are beginning to publish our first story in Writer's Workshop.  They have picked one story to revise and edit.  We will be working on those stories for the next week then we will have a publishing party!

There will be no spelling words this week or next week.  Some of us are doing very well on our tests, but not using those pattern strategies during writing time.  We will be doing lots of word work and reviewing patterns and using them whi
